Singapore in 3 days: a first-timer's walking itinerary (2026)
This is the route we would hand a friend visiting Singapore for the first time. Each day is eight stops in walking order, timed so the busy places come before the tour groups and the viewpoints land near sunset. Prices were checked in November 2026; where a price is older or not published, we say so.
Open the interactive 3D route →Day 1 · Marina Bay: Marina Bay, casino coffee to Spectra
Eight stops from 10am. Upgrade your card at the MBS casino first, use the free perks indoors, spend the hottest hours in the Domes, then Garden Rhapsody, satay at Lau Pa Sat and Spectra from the Jubilee Bridge.
MBS Casino · card upgrade & coffee
Upgrade first so the free SkyPark and Sampan tickets are ready for the rest of the day. Then sit down with a coffee and book the slots in the app.
Price: Free entry for foreigners (21+) · Hours: Open 24 hours
Tip: Use the 'Foreigner' lanes with your passport (work pass holders: passport plus pass card). Ask at a Sands Rewards Club counter (B2M, L1 or L2 near the Ruby/Apex Grand entrances) for Gold, then check the tier and perks in the app. Gold gives 2 tickets per attraction per month; ask whether your companion may use the second one. Set a spending limit before you go in.
Sampan Ride · boat inside the mall
A short boat ride along the indoor canal of The Shoppes, right after the upgrade, while the mall is still quiet.
Price: Free with the Gold perks (book in the app) · otherwise from S$10 in the app (S$15 full price) · Hours: Rides 11am–9pm
Tip: Book in the app under More → attraction tickets. The Eye of the Waterfall tour under the Rain Oculus runs only on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1, 3 and 5pm (not on public holidays). The Digital Light Canvas on B2 (also a Gold perk) is a few steps away if you have time.
SkyPark Observation Deck
The whole bay from about 200m up in clear midday light: the Gardens you'll walk next, the Merlion and the bridge where the day ends.
Price: Free with the Gold perks · otherwise S$35 adult before 4:30pm · Hours: 9:30am–4:30pm, 5pm–10pm (closed 4:30–5pm)
Tip: Enter from the Tower 3 side and take the lift to level 56. Before 4:30pm is the cheaper price band and the queue is short. The deck closes on some event dates.
Flower Dome & Cloud Forest
Spend the hottest hours inside two cooled glass conservatories: a flower garden and a 35m indoor mountain with a waterfall.
Price: S$46 adult · S$32 child (3–12) · Hours: Daily 9am–9pm
Tip: Do Cloud Forest first: take the lift to the top, then walk down the ramps past the waterfall. Book online to skip the ticket queue.
Garden Rhapsody
The Supertrees light up in time to music. Lie back on the ground under the grove like the locals do.
Price: Free · Hours: 7:45pm & 8:45pm nightly
Tip: Arrive around 7:15pm and bring a thin mat. Watch the 7:45 show and leave right after it ends to make dinner and the 9pm Spectra.
Lau Pa Sat · Satay Street
At night Boon Tat Street beside the 1894 cast-iron market becomes a car-free satay street. Grilled skewers and a cold drink before the last show.
Price: Free entry · pay per dish · Hours: Open 24 hours · Satay Street 7pm–3am weekdays, 3pm–3am weekends
Tip: Order satay as soon as you sit down; it is quick. Video guides point Korean visitors to stalls No. 7 and No. 8. Leave by 8:40pm for the 9pm Spectra; a Grab from the Gardens instead of the MRT saves about 10 minutes.
Merlion Park
The lit-up Merlion with Marina Bay Sands glowing behind it, on the way to the bridge.
Price: Free · Hours: Open 24 hours
Tip: A quick night photo from the jetty, then walk a minute north to the Jubilee Bridge for the show.
Spectra from the Jubilee Bridge
From across the bay you see the lasers and lights over the water with the whole MBS skyline behind them, and the Merlion below you.
Price: Free · Hours: Spectra 8pm & 9pm nightly · extra 10pm show Fri & Sat
Tip: From here you get the lasers and the skyline, but the music and the images on the water screens are best at the MBS Event Plaza. If dinner runs late, Friday and Saturday have a 10pm show.
Day 2 · Old town & river: Colonial core, Chinatown and the river by night
Eight stops on foot: the tree tunnel before the crowds, two national museums through the heat, Chinatown's temples before they close, chicken rice for dinner and a bumboat on the river.
Fort Canning Tree Tunnel
The spiral staircase looking up through the trees is Singapore's most copied photo. At 9am there is no queue.
Price: Free · Hours: Park open daily
Tip: It is by the Fort Canning MRT exit side of the park. Go at 9am or earlier; by late morning there is a line for the shot.
National Museum of Singapore
Singapore's story from the 14th century to now, in an 1887 dome building. The best two hours to understand what you see on the rest of the trip.
Price: S$18 tourist (from 13 Oct 2026) · S$13 concession · Hours: Daily from 10am · check the site for closing time
Tip: Start with the Singapore History Gallery, then the dome's glass rotunda.
CHIJMES, Raffles Hotel & lunch
Pass CHIJMES, a 19th-century convent chapel turned courtyard, then the white 1887 Raffles Hotel, birthplace of the Singapore Sling.
Price: Free to walk · Long Bar Singapore Sling S$44++ (2026 price · check on site) · Hours: Arcade open daily
Tip: Lunch in the Raffles City food court across the road is fast and air-conditioned. The Long Bar is the place for a Sling if you want one.
National Gallery Singapore
Southeast Asian art inside the old Supreme Court and City Hall, joined by a glass roof. It fills the hottest part of the afternoon.
Price: S$20 standard (non-resident) · S$15 concession · Hours: Daily · check the site for hours
Tip: Finish on the rooftop for the free view over the Padang to Marina Bay Sands. St Andrew's Cathedral is a two-minute walk on the way in.
Buddha Tooth Relic Temple
A Tang-style temple with a rooftop orchid garden and prayer wheel, the first stop in Chinatown because it closes earliest.
Price: Free · Hours: Go before 5pm (video guide: it closes around then); check on the day
Tip: Cover shoulders and knees; wraps are available at the entrance.
Sri Mariamman Temple & Pagoda Street
Singapore's oldest Hindu temple sits in the middle of Chinatown, next to the lantern-hung shophouse street market.
Price: Free · Hours: Temple and street open daily
Tip: Remove your shoes before going in. Pagoda Street is the place for magnets and small souvenirs.
Maxwell Food Centre
The hawker centre famous for Hainanese chicken rice, a five-minute walk from the temples.
Price: Free entry · pay per dish · Hours: Stall hours vary; many close by evening
Tip: The most famous chicken rice stall has the longest queue; neighbours are almost as good. Stalls start closing in the evening, so don't arrive late.
Clarke Quay & River Cruise
A wooden bumboat from Clarke Quay past Boat Quay and the Merlion to Marina Bay, with the whole skyline lit up.
Price: S$28 adult · Hours: Evening departures from Clarke Quay jetty
Tip: After the cruise, the rainbow-shuttered Old Hill Street Police Station is a two-minute walk for a night photo.
Day 3 · Sentosa: Sentosa: Universal, the luge and a beach sunset
Monorail from VivoCity into Universal Studios, the luge once the midday heat has passed, sunset on Siloso Beach and the Wings of Time show over the sea.
VivoCity · Sentosa Express
The easiest way onto the island: the monorail leaves from level 3 of VivoCity, above HarbourFront MRT.
Price: Sentosa Express S$4 island admission (EZ-Link/card) · Boardwalk free · Hours: Monorail runs from early morning
Tip: Tap a contactless card at the gate. The Singapore Tourist Pass is not valid on the Sentosa Express.
Universal Studios Singapore
Southeast Asia's Universal park, right by Resorts World station. Doing it first means the shortest queues.
Price: From S$76 adult one-day (date-based pricing) · Hours: Opening hours vary by date; check RWS
Tip: Allow 4–5 hours off-season and 6–7 in peak season, when an Express Pass is worth it. The Resorts World casino is next door (21+, passport).
Skyline Luge
Gravity carts down a hillside track to the beach, with the chairlift back up. Late afternoon avoids the midday sun.
Price: S$30 per person for 4 Luge & Skyride rides · Hours: Check sentosa.com.sg
Tip: Avoid midday. A multi-ride ticket is better value; allow 1.5–2 hours if you want several runs.
Siloso Beach sunset
Sentosa's liveliest beach faces west, so the sun sets over the ships. Beach bars do dinner with sand under the table.
Price: Free · pay for dinner · Hours: Open daily
Tip: Sunset is around 7pm. Walk back along the shore towards Beach station for the show.
Wings of Time
Water jets, fire, lasers and music on a stage built into the sea, the island's big night finale.
Price: From S$22 · shows 7:40pm & 8:40pm · Hours: Nightly 7:40pm & 8:40pm
Tip: The show is about 15 minutes, but allow 30–40 for seating. Afterwards, Beach station takes you back to VivoCity.
Casino Gold route: Upgrade at the casino, then walk the bay into the night
Six stops on foot from 1:45pm: Gold upgrade at the MBS casino, the free perks indoors through the heat, blue-hour photos on the Helix Bridge, Spectra from the Merlion side and Vietnamese dinner on Boat Quay.
MBS Casino · Gold upgrade
Upgrade first so the free attraction tickets are ready for the rest of the day.
Price: Free entry for foreigners (21+) · Hours: Open 24 hours
Tip: Use the 'Foreigner' lanes with your passport (work pass holders: passport plus pass card). Ask at a Sands Rewards Club counter (B2M, L1 or L2 near the Ruby/Apex Grand entrances) for Gold, then check the tier name and perks in the app. Gold gives 2 tickets per attraction per month; ask whether your companion may use the second one. Set a spending limit before you go in.
Digital Light Canvas & Sampan Ride
Two of the free perks, both indoors through the hottest hours.
Price: Free with the Gold perks (book in the app) · otherwise pay on site · Hours: Digital Light Canvas 11am–9pm
Tip: Book in the app under More → attraction tickets. The Eye of the Waterfall tour runs only on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1, 3 and 5pm (not on public holidays); on other days ride any time 11am–9pm. Sampan Ride from S$10 in the app (S$15 at full price).
SkyPark Observation Deck
The whole bay from about 200m up, an hour before sunset, so you know where tonight's photos are.
Price: Free with the Gold perks · otherwise S$39 adult after 5pm · Hours: 9:30am–4:30pm, 5pm–10pm (closed 4:30–5pm)
Tip: It closes from 4:30 to 5pm, so go after 5. Come down by about 6:15; on busy days the lift queue down can be long.
Helix Bridge · blue hour
Sunset is around 7:05pm. In blue hour (about 7:10–7:40) the sky colour, the bay reflection and the bridge's own lights all come on together.
Price: Free · Hours: Open 24 hours
Tip: Shoot from the Esplanade end toward the ArtScience Museum and the three MBS towers, using the lit helix as a leading line. Stand at the end, not the middle: foot traffic shakes the bridge and blurs long exposures.
Merlion Park · Spectra from across the bay
The Merlion with MBS behind it, and the 8pm Spectra lasers playing across the water: two classic shots in one place.
Price: Free · Hours: Spectra 8pm & 9pm nightly · extra 10pm Fri & Sat
Tip: Leave the Helix Bridge by 7:40 to make the 8pm show; if you miss it, the 9pm show works and dinner moves first. Jubilee Bridge on the way has an open skyline view.
Co Chung · Vietnamese dinner
A street-level shophouse on Boat Quay with a cosy, Vietnam-like room and thousands of high Google ratings, 5–7 minutes along the river from the Merlion.
Price: Pay per dish · Hours: Daily 11am–10pm
Tip: Reviews call the pho average, so mix in other dishes. Lotus Nguyen next door on North Canal Road stays open to 11:30pm if you eat late. Home: Raffles Place MRT, a few minutes' walk.

- StarHub Traveler eSIM (data only): S$12 for 14 days with 100GB. Buy online; the QR code arrives by app and email. Activate within 21 days of purchase.
- What to bring: Your passport. Every prepaid SIM or eSIM is registered to a passport at purchase or activation.
- Before you fly: Korean telcos and eSIM apps also sell Singapore plans; compare data and days with the StarHub prices above.
Getting around
- Contactless card (easiest): Tap a Visa or Mastercard, Apple Pay or Samsung Wallet at MRT gates and on buses. Tap in and tap out. Your bank's overseas fee applies.
- Singapore Tourist Pass: Unlimited basic bus, MRT and LRT: 1 day S$17 · 2 days S$24 · 3 days S$29. Not valid on Sentosa Express or express buses. Multi-day passes run on consecutive days. Buy at TransitLink ticket offices (check the official 'where to buy' list).
- Is the pass worth it?: Only on days with many rides. On a walking day like Day 1 (one MRT ride) a contactless card costs less.
- Grab & taxis: Register your card in the Grab app before you fly; phone verification can fail once you switch SIM.
- Airport to city: The MRT runs from Changi Airport (change at Tanah Merah for the city). Grab and taxi stands are outside arrivals.
- Sentosa Express (Day 3): Board on level 3 of VivoCity above HarbourFront MRT and tap a contactless card. The Tourist Pass is not valid on it; check the current fare on sentosa.com.sg.
Marina Bay Sands free perks (Sands Rewards)
- What you get: According to a video guide, a free Sands Rewards Gold membership has included free entry to the SkyPark Observation Deck (normally S$35–39), the Sampan Ride and Digital Light Canvas, plus a small casino credit and free drinks in the casino. The guide reports up to two free bookings per attraction per month.
- 1. Sign up in the app: Download the official Marina Bay Sands app and register as a Sands LifeStyle member. Membership is free.
- Two separate memberships: Sands LifeStyle (Classic → Prestige → Elite) is for shopping, dining and hotel spend. The casino has its own Sands Rewards Club tiers, and 'Gold' belongs to that side. After upgrading, check which tier name the app shows.
- 2. Enter the casino: 21 or older, free for foreigners: use the lanes marked 'Foreigner'. Short-term visitors show a passport; Singapore work pass holders show the passport plus the work pass card. Avoid shorts and slippers; sneakers are the safe choice.
- 3. Upgrade at the counter: Ask at a Sands Rewards Club counter inside the casino (B2M, L1, or L2 near the Ruby/Apex Grand entrances). Sands LifeStyle counters: Hotel Tower 1 lobby (10am–10:30pm), The Shoppes B1 above the Sampan Rides and B2 near the Digital Light Canvas (10am–11pm). 24-hour hotline +65 6688 8981.
- 4. Book the perks: Log in to the app as a Sands Rewards member, then book under More → attraction tickets. Book the Sampan Ride around the Rain Oculus waterfall times (Eye of the Waterfall tour: Tuesdays and Thursdays only, 1, 3 and 5pm, not on public holidays).
- Travelling as two?: Official Gold terms: 2 complimentary tickets per attraction per month (SkyPark, Sampan Ride, Digital Light Canvas). The terms do not say whether a guest may use the second ticket, and the member must redeem and attend in person, so ask at the counter: 'Can my companion use my second ticket today?' Officially, Gold is earned with 68 Sands Points within 12 months; on-the-spot upgrades are at the counter's discretion. Membership, points and casino benefits cannot be transferred, so anyone who plays should sign up in their own name.
- Who qualifies (counter, 26 Oct 2026): At the MBS counter the instant Gold upgrade was offered only to foreign tourists, with a passport plus a Korean ID card or driving licence. Singapore work pass holders and residents were not eligible. If you live in Singapore, let your visiting companion upgrade, or buy tickets.
- Keeping the tier: Under partner upgrade terms, a 3-month Prestige tier extends 9 more months with over S$1,500 spend in the first 3 months (Elite: S$15,000).
- Before you rely on it: These are the casino operator's terms and can change or end without notice. Confirm in the app before you skip buying a ticket, and set a spending limit before entering the casino.
Night photos: Helix & Jubilee bridges
- Helix Bridge (the classic): Shoot from the Esplanade side toward the lotus-shaped ArtScience Museum and the three MBS towers, using the lit helix as a leading line. The bridge has four round viewing platforms.
- Stand at the end, not the middle: Heavy foot traffic makes the bridge vibrate and blurs long exposures. The ends of the bridge are steadier.
- Jubilee Bridge (skyline + reflection): Links Merlion Park and the Esplanade. Shoot across the bay for MBS and its reflection; this is the best spot to watch Spectra from across the water.
- Timing: Sunset is around 7:05pm in late October. Blue hour (about 7:10–7:40pm) gives sky colour, reflections and bridge lights together. Spectra runs at 8pm and 9pm.
- Camera settings: Tripod: ISO 100, f/8, 2–10 s. Handheld: widest aperture, 1/30 s, ISO 1600–3200, and brace against the railing.
Thai dinner near the bay
- Bangkok Jam · Marina Square (best value): Casual room styled like a busy Bangkok street, modern takes on Thai classics. Try tom yum fried rice, basil chicken or green curry chicken. A short walk from the Esplanade end of the Helix Bridge.
- Sabai Fine Thai · Customs House (best view): Waterfront tables facing the skyline across Marina Bay, indoor or outdoor. Prices are on the higher side, so save it for a special night.
- Makansutra Gluttons Bay · Esplanade (cheapest): Open-air hawker stalls by the water with bay views and Thai dishes among other cuisines. Lively and casual.
- Pick: Value and atmosphere together: Bangkok Jam. The view is the occasion: Sabai. Then walk to the Jubilee Bridge for Spectra.
Airport tips
- Shower before a night flight: Per the video guide, the Hub & Spoke lounge at Terminal 2 has showers for about S$5 until 10pm, with lockers for backpacks: past McDonald's, out to the car park, lift to level 1.
- Jewel Rain Vortex: The indoor waterfall can be switched off for maintenance in early to mid January.
Entry & rules
- SG Arrival Card: Submit it free on the official ICA website or MyICA app within 3 days before arrival. Ignore paid look-alike sites.
- On the MRT: No eating or drinking, and no durians. Fines apply.
- Casinos: Foreign visitors enter Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa casinos free with a passport; you must be 21 or older. Set a spending limit before you go in.
Money
- Cards everywhere: Cards and mobile pay work almost everywhere; keep a little cash for hawker drink stalls and small shops.
- ATMs: Choose SGD (not your home currency) when the ATM asks, to avoid double conversion.
- GST refund: Spent S$100 or more in one store on the same day? Claim the 9% GST refund at Changi Airport before check-in.
